    Garden Lighting Design Guide

    Layered Garden Lighting

A garden read at night is a sequence of focal moments, not a uniformly lit field.

    Recommended Layers

    • Focal trees uplit with narrow beams
    • Low-mounted pathway lights at 5–10 lux
    • Soft graze on garden walls or rock features
    • Seating areas with concealed warm sources
    • Optional moonlighting from high tree forks for dappled light

    CCT and Hardware

    • 2700K throughout
    • CRI 90+
    • IP65 minimum, IP68 in water
    • Bronze or marine-grade stainless for longevity

    Common Mistakes

    • Cool CCT outdoors
    • Too many path lights, runway effect
    • Spike lights tilted upward at neighbours' windows
    • No controls or schedule

    Professional Recommendation

Light fewer things, better. Three focal moments per garden zone is plenty.
