Pathways are about safe movement, not stage lighting. Low lux, warm CCT, glare-free fixtures, generously spaced.

    Pathway Lighting Guide

    Goal: Safe Movement, Not Brightness

A pathway lit too brightly destroys the night. Lit too sparsely it becomes unsafe. The right balance is 5–15 lux, glare-free.

    Recommended Spacing

    Fixture TypeSpacingLux at Ground
    Bollards (0.6–1.0m)4–6m apart10–15 lux
Recessed step lights0.6–1m apart on steps15–20 lux
    Downlight from posts / pergolas4–8m apart5–10 lux
    In-grade markers1–2m apart2–5 lux

    CCT and Optics

    • 2700K throughout
    • Asymmetric optics where possible
    • Cut-off shields to control upward light

    Common Mistakes

    • Runway effect, too many bollards, too close
    • Cool CCT, hospital aesthetic
    • Glare from poorly shielded fixtures
    • Mismatched fixtures along the same path

    Professional Recommendation

Light the path, not the surroundings. Low, warm, generously spaced.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Bollard or in-grade?+

Bollard for safety and clarity. In-grade for design-led, minimal aesthetics, paired with downlight for actual visibility.
